I’ll be brief.
Yes, yes I know, I’ve been slacking majorly, and I really don’t have any excuse. Uni started well over two months ago and we’ve just finished our second trail of exams. I’ll be honest, as resilient as I have been in writing this blog for the past year or so, I feel that I have no time in typing this out. As I’m progressing through uni, the courses are getting harder and require more time, along with keeping up the house, interacting with Sebastian and spending time with my soon-to-be-wife. Everything I seem to type out just comes out in a list, with less definition, clarity, description or imagery, but I suppose it’s the price I pay spending so much time on a ‘scientific’ major (not to say it’s unimaginative, of course). By the look of the statistics, the blog isn’t getting as much hits and it used to, which leads me to think that starting this up was a gimmick of sorts. Also, the new blog scene thing appears to be ‘tumblr’, I guess that’s where all the hipsters go. As a matter of fact, and feeling a little bit ashamed, I might (a very big might) jump on the bandwagon just like everybody else. I feel that I don’t have to be obliged to make long posts every few weeks – I feel that small quaint posts would suffice on tumblr. However, time being of the essence, I don’t seem to have as much time to type up this blog like I did last year, as my classes are scheduled as such.
And another thing, the internet we were leeching off at the apartment dissipated, so internet usage has been severely cut.
So, as a general update before I turn to the dark side:
Classes this semester: Child Psych, Experimental Psych, French 2, and Biology 2.
Also, me and Amy viewed our wedding venue – a quaint little vineyard out in a place called Turkey Creek. Lovely interior design – it’s not your typical venue with white washed walls, the place has a lot of character, which suits me and Amy. The owner designs pretty much everything herself: trinkets placed on modern shelving, and a bar that’s laced with foreign money, with fairy lights lit up in bottles. It’s honestly something you have to appreciate when you see it, but for whatever reason we failed to bring a camera that day. Amy always wanted an outdoor wedding and in May when it happens, all the flowers and trees will be fully bloomed – the archway will be decorated with daisies the size of your fist. Statues and fountains situated around the flowers, overlooking a swamp (contrary to Hollywood, swamps look quite pretty).
Upcoming is Jasmine’s and Sebastian’s birthday: Sebastian’s getting his first train set, since every little boy needs one, and Jasmine’s getting a camera, as she seems to be interested in following Amy’s photography footsteps.
As you might recall from last year, this weekend (as in right now before I leave to head out) is the Cotton Festival weekend with fair rides and a parade. Jasmine started kindergarten this year and has been in a flurry of activities, including the Cotton Festival Parade that she will be walking in tomorrow. Speaking of which, yesterday was my first experience of a high school football game. Teenage boys in urban armour, bashing their heads against one another, with the two paint lines underneath each eye painted with their fingers. We only went for half time to watch Jasmine cheerlead for her team, I wasn’t too interested in the game. However, the most amusing part was the half time game with the 5 year olds playing American football, with the helmet being the third of their body size: cute, but kind of awkward to see five year olds be so actively violent. When they tackled each other, they tumbled like ragdolls across the field, and got up straight after seemingly and surprisingly unaffected. I actually saw one of the kids claw one of the players on the opposing team, and the coach actually had to pull him back! But I guess it’s not that much more different then kids slid tackling each other in football, heh.
I will carry on keeping this blog up, but I won’t update nearly as often, so don’t expect to see anything any time soon. If you want to catch up or talk with me, Amy or Sebastian, you know where to find us.
I don’t know when we’ll be heading back to England to visit, but I’m sure those who are loyal will still keep in contact.
Well then, friends, I bid you farewell.

After two weeks of complete nostalgia and reminiscence, connecting the old with my better halves, we three arrive safetly back into the States. With us just getting over the jetlag our sleeping habits have temporarily aged a few decades – sleeping at 9:30pm and waking up at 6:30am. Considering the more hours of sunlight I’m receiving, I feel that I’m typing this a little bit prematurely; but so, a blog post nonetheless.
Me and Amy were shuddersome of Sebastian screaming and crying on the plane like the stereotypical kids who kick the back of someone else’s seat, and who could blame him? Especially with the tubes in his ears, who knows the caliber of pain that he could be feeling? Hell, even though I love flying, I’m a wuss when the pressure change completely defiles my ears. I curl up into the fetal position and everything! Surprisingly, Sebastian did the exact opposite. He was laughing and clapping on the plane, and he especially loved the bumpy landing. At the stop-over in Atlanta, he felt the best out of the three of us, with a constant smile on his face and an urge to see all the planes at the airport. He even fell asleep on the plane to England, accumulating more sleep, in quantity and quality, than me and Amy put together. As soon as he arrived into England, he was almost heartbroken to know that we were not going to ride another one for a two weeks..!
Yes, that boy sure loves flying!
Having to take 6 hours to arrive back to the house from the airport, thanks to roadworks on the way back from Heathrow, we were still able to enjoy to mosey on up town the next day, enjoying the refurbished park at the Walks, with a zipline that hit Amy in the head and Sebastian enjoying new park toys that look quite deadly. We were bumping into old friends left and right which was very comforting. Everyone was very sweet to Sebastian and very nice to Amy, which means a lot to me and to them. We are a little family after all!
I was kind of surprised how much things have changed in the town centre – maybe you guys don’t notice it because you’ve been going there more often than I, but to me it seemed like a significant change. Everything just seemed to be more modern, and I guess that’s somewhat sad in a way. I missed to antique look of Lynn, and I still look down and speed pace pass Cancer Research where I used to work!
We met old friends on their work break, and strolled around town spending an ungodly amount of money at Topshop/Topman. As town was closing, we quickly went and got some bread to feed the ducks at the Walks for old time sakes. Sebastian liked feeding them whole pieces of bread unaware of the squabble that would proceed.
We spent the next day in Lincoln where my sister goes to uni, A quaint little city, full of history and extremely crazy roads with the ballsiest drivers. For whatever reason, Primark just happens to be a ‘must visit’ for those out of the country. I myself didn’t go, maybe because I watch that documentary on where the clothes came from and how all the clothes were made, maybe because I bought a pair of terribly fitting but cheap jeans that washed its colour out after the first wash, or maybe because I didn’t feel like getting lost in a habilimental maze of mediocre clothing. Either way, after feeding the Queen’s swans, and noticing how mean they are by biting the younger swans’ necks, we went for the local cultural landmark – the Lincoln Cathedral. I guess I never realised this before but I took for granted the castles, the cathedrals and the churches of England. The elaborative architecture, the bounty historical value, the cultural atmosphere – something that you don’t get to fully appreciate until you’ve been away from it for a while I suppose.
Legal drinking was a definite plus as we celebrated Sam’s birthday. It was Amy’s first night out, which included a lot of conversations and dancing. We brought Amy to the poor-excuse-for-a-night-club, but I guess it’s the best that King’s Lynn can offer. It’s not like we binged as such, it’s just a nice feeling of being able to do something, to be less restricted to something like alcohol. Yep, I jumped on the ’18 should be the drinking age not 21′ band wagon.
Staying in a traditional cottage that was converted from a barn (I really shouldn’t have fed the dogs so much bread), we visited Windsor castle: a castle where they should have taken us in History class, rather than the one with the ‘best perserved staircase in the whole of England’. We arrived pretty late so we couldn’t see as much as we wanted too, but we still got our money’s worth. The cloakroom itself was walled with dishware from all over the world and from different time periods – Greek, Chinese, etc. We toured through the rooms where they would have taken their guests, and marvelled at how disgustingly rich the place was. Velvet drapes and tapestry-ed walls and portraits galore! Now I feel kind of old for liking it all! Sebastian had enjoyed watching the Queen’s guards march back and forth flipping their bayonet rifles. As curious as children are, I had to refrain from Sebastian touching them.
Whilst in Windsor, we wanted to do something suitable for Sebastian, and what better destination than Legoland! I went before when I was a little older than Sebastian but all I remembered was the bus ride over there; hopefully Sebastian will remember more. Unfortunately for him, he was too young to get his Lego driver’s license but we worked our way around that. We started off at miniland and Sebastian was bent on seeing the miniature trains going around the plastic bricks of Scotland and Wales, while both Amys lived in a bubble for all of 5 minutes. There seems to be a growing trend in people paying a ridiculous amount of money to be put in an inflatable bubble that rests on a pool of water. You’ve got all the kids that start getting up and running like a hamster in a ball, and then you’ve got both Amys struggling to get on their feet and falling down hilariously. It looks fun and it is for the first three minutes but then you start noticing the smell of other people’s feet and feeling of a small scale greenhouse effect enough to make someone pass out.
We went on the fairy tale ride for Sebastian where they quite originally mix and matched the generations – the Big Bad Wolf watching television, Little Red Riding Hood talking on her mobile phone. For some reason it just completely cracked me up. Soon after, and as peculiar as it sound, Amy felt like she was molested by a red brick. It was one of those guys in costumes, and Amy specifically said to my mum that she was always afraid of those people because she always had bad experiences with them as a child. Sebastian was too scared to take a picture with ‘it’ (I don’t think Lego blocks are subjected to gender) so Amy filled in the gap. Sure enough, when she stood next to ‘it’, it placed it’s hand over Amy’s face ‘playfully’, making it slightly more difficult for her to breathe.Ending our Windsor trip was a quick day stop to London. Considering to be quite the city-boy myself, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to stop by the capital for the old tyme favourite Camden market and a nice dinner in China town. I was depressed to find out that I grew out of pretty much everything in Camden. No more band t-shirts or ‘gothic’ designs. I didn’t even feel like walking into Cyberdog because I knew I wasn’t going to buy anything. I would be kidding myself if I pretended to still like that sort of thing. To make it a trip worth while down there I impulsively bought 3 shirts for £33 that were alright at best. Amy feels similarly and we both agreed that it was better the last time we went together back in the winter of ’08. However, Chinatown was a nice pick up, being able to buy qwirky trinkets that would be hard to find in shops and too figity and overly expensive to find online. Ramune made everything better, and so did Amy and Sebastian’s favourite koala cookies (filled with chocolate, not guts!).
Next on the agenda was to visit my extended family in Doncaster to parade Amy and Sebastian around, to show how successful and happy we are, and to break the news of the marriage in April next year. The atmosphere was high especially with my cousin Alex’s graduation the day before. Amy and Carly hit it off and words were spoken until it became dark and raining. Human centipedes afoot.Hunstanton is always a must visit since it’s only 20 or so minutes away – I somewhat was used to the fact that the beach was only 15 miles away. Batty drove us three and we visited the Sea Life Centre. I know it’s expensive yet tacky, and kinda lame, but I mainly did it for Sebastian’s sake. Knowing our luck the air conditioner was broken and with it being so miserably humid inside, it was hard to enjoy my £40 worth within. But still, Sebastian had fun looking at all the different types of rays, sharks, but fairly repelled by the crustaceans due to their freaky look. He was keen on seeing the random things – the penguin rubbish bins that he thought were real. Now he thinks it’s okay to feed real penguins plastic bottles and pieces of paper! And finally, the day ended with an intensive battle of air hockey between Amy and Batty, that put innocent bystanders in danger (Air Hockey isn’t just a game, it’s serious business).
As quick as the two weeks went by, it was already time for us to depart back to America. As ever, I threw a little shindig that was kid friendly, and I was happy to see everybody playing Legos with Sebastian, making friendships with Amy, and Scott working the barbeque, which was a load off my hands! It was a pretty good turn out, and I was happy to see a lot of familiar faces. The planning was fairly rushed, I must admit, since it was planned the night before we left, but it just means that the memories were kept fresh. We are still talk about the holiday and we’re still in the process of distributing souvenirs.
Who knows when we’ll be back in England, but everyone is more than welcome to come for the wedding in April. We’re planning the wedding right now, and Amt’s mum has already bought the ring bearer’s pillow, and bubbles to go along with the invitations. We’re planning to have the wedding at a vineyard close to Amy’s old house, and though it’s going to be a small and relatively cheap wedding, it will be beautifully enchanting, artful and picturesque. Yes, I’ll leave the women to plan the wedding!
So, for those who saw us, it was great to see you again, and for those we missed, apologies. Until next time, then ~

The State Fair passed by not so long ago, a flurry of candyfloss with smiling faces, oversized plushes and goldfish in bags of water (even though we searched endlessly for the place that gave them away as prizes..) Yes, the State Fair is the epitome of the American summer break, and what better way to spend it? We spent our time in the kid’s section, with Sebastian riding cars and motorcycles on tracks, persistent in riding the same ride in the same red truck. The reoccurring mother-and-son ride is the big pink plastic slide, probably the most adrenaline that a child of Sebastian’s age should have. There was a car-on-track ride that was a Nascar that would drift – whilst looking at all the other kids ride and that one kid who cried, Sebastian squinted with mean eyes as to say, “I’m going to do this, regarldess”. With pride, he stepped into the same cart which the kid cried on, and lasted 5 seconds. Hell, I don’t blame him, that ride was intense – we only let him go on it since it said it was made for two year olds. Pfft, yeah, kids with no spinal cord.
Lately, me and Amy have been busy with moving apartment – I was in for a treat moving beds and dressers from upstairs, spending weeks packing boxes and having difficulty in deciding what the keep and what to throw away. Everything just looks so.. useful! We had to play life-size tetris in a U-Haul truck. If anyone remembers me at Taekwondo, they’d know that I was infamous for the amount of sweat that would soak my uniform, and how they’d cringe at performing self-defense with me. On a hot summer’s day in Louisiana, this surpasses that. After almost two weeks of moving, we still haven’t finished unpacking or packing everything from the old apartment.
The new apartment is more manageable. It’s one story with the living room, dining room and the kitchen in the middle, with bedrooms at each end (me and Amy’s bedroom has an en suite bathroom, aha!) We have a little porch area at the front so we don’t have to experience cabin fever on long rainy days; the surroundings of the apartment is a very shaded area itself, a more bearable area for Sebastian to play at, without direct sunlight beating down on him. We’re located right by the swimming pool and the tennis court – enough out the way to not hear any noise, but close enough to be easily accessible.
Why the sudden move? Let’s just say that we got tired of the management and keep it as that.
Pictures of the new apartment, or maybe a video, next post.
As a vacation with my now American side of the family, we went to a beach resort in Galveston, Texas, rather than the usual ‘Florabama’ they go to every year thanks to the BP oil spill. Galveston Island was one of the very few places on the Gulf that was not affected by the oil spill and so was empty of dead sea animals and orange gloop washing up ashore. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve properly enjoyed the beach in a few years now. Admittingly, in my embarrassing ‘goth’ days, I used to dodge the sun for wanting to keep my skin paler and to not get so hot in wearing black all the time. I used to never be caught dead wearing shorts, but now I’m wearing them on a daily basis!
So, after an arduous 6+ hour drive, an hour ferry ride with dolphins jumping out of the water beside us, and coming to the realisation of leaving me and Amy’s luggage back at the house, we arrived a small inn with putt-putt golf and a swimming pool, close to the schlitterbahn waterpark. We arrived at a time where the sun was just about to set, where the sea was still warm and the sand was cooling down. We headed to the beach for about an hour and a half, where the kids had fun jumping the oceans waves, and Mike teaching me how to spiral an American football.
The next day we spent a few hours at the beach making sand turtles and finding all sorts of crustaceans, watching birds drive into the ocean and fish jump out of the water, and watching people get stung by jellyfish. Whilst half of the group went to an over priced waterpark, we headed to the Rainforest Café, something that Amy and her side of the family have never seen before, and was amazed the the interior decor of plastic vines and rainforest animals hanging from the ceiling, accompanied by the reoccuring thunder and lightening and the occasional spray of humidity. Later that day, we went on the indoor adventure ride, which was a 20-minute boat ride taking us around mechanical amazonian animals. Good for Sebastian and Amy too, she was stargazed because she’s never seen anything like it (:As you should already know, me, Amy and Sebastian are arriving this coming Tuesday, and I guess plans with friends will be made when we arrive. So far what my mum’s got in mind, we’re heading to Legoland/around Windsor on the 5th and 6th July, and will be heading to Doncaster on the 10th for the annual family reunion, and then we’re leaving on the 14th. Maybe not the longest trip in the world, but it’s long enough. Any longer and I think Bub will be too homesick to be comfortable staying.

Well I hope to see y’all soon, and I promise to get little gifts for my little American friends. You Brits prepare for Amy, she’s bringing a real surprise

Summer has finally crept around the corner – rid of all the stress of exams and term papers. Finally, we have free time, amongst all the ‘free’ time everyone already had. Plans for the summer, anyone?

Well, right now I’m watching Amy play the Kingdom Hearts II on the PS2. We collectively bought a PS2 with 5 games, all of them being under $10 – Vice City, Devil May Cry, Soul Caliber III, and Resident Evil 4 being the other ones. Pretty good deal right? When school was in session, every second of free time we had was spent on cracking books open, stressing out about term papers and exams. Now, we’ve decided to nostalge for the summer, and do what most find mundane, but rare to me and Amy – to play video games! We give Sebastian the second PS2 controller most of the time so he feels like he’s playing with us. When it comes to the Wii, he has a complete ball with that. He loves to play Wii sports and Mario Kart too; you know, with the driving wheel and everything!

But don’t worry, we’re not spending our whole summer being couch potatos with square eyes. We’ve been spending more or less every day at our apartment pool, basking in the sun, swimming, floating around playing with Sebastian. I always compared the idea to birds swimming in garden fountains. In fact, a few days ago me, Amy and Amy’s friend Brandon went to Blue Bayou/Dixie Landin’, a waterpark and an amusement park built into one! Most famous for it’s purple and yellow tornado slide – Akura – that can be seen by the side of the interstate. A summer hit for our mammal bodies to bask in the various water activities! The most life-threateningly entertaining slide was probably Lafitte’s Plunge: a body water slide that slowly rumbles you towards the edge in total darkness; and then, a sudden 90 degree angle drop. My body was literally riding on the water on not the slide, with my left leg dangling off to the side. Somehow, I managed to stay alive, and after brushing the water off my face with my hands, I picked up my heart from the floor and felt the intense need to ride it again.

After a full day of enjoying the waterslides, we only decided to go on two of the rides at Dixielandin’ – after all, it’s just as much exhilaration as Blue Bayou, and our excitement gauge was pretty much overfilling. Now, think of a normal log flume ride, and how the end has a large drop. Double that. This thing dropped 25 feet right away, and then 50 right at the end. T’was a good thing that I took my shoes off before I rode, my Tom’s smell bad enough as it is. The next and last ride we went on was the Ragin’ Cajun. The ride itself isn’t that long itself, but there are so many loops and hoops, throwing you 3.4 G’s at 14 stories high. It’s hard to keep your eyes open, I promise you. A nice end to the evening was to have a small dinner in a small but traditional, simple and atmospheric sushi bar with Amy’s friend Rachel + her friends, and watching Freddy Got Fingered on her DIY home theatre.

Pre-Blue Bayou, we went to get Sebastian’s passport. It’s official, me, Amy and Sebastian have bought the tickets and have all the necessary documents to visit England for two weeks. We’ll be arriving on the 29th June early afternoon, after a gruelling 13 hour plane ride. We’re staying until the 14th July, and since all the Derbyshire cottages are all booked up, I happen to have a lot of free time now. My mum suggests Legoland and Chessington, which are both very good ideas. I think we might also stay a night in London too, to take Sebastian to the zoo, Camden market and Hamley’s – the biggest toy shop in the world, stretching up to something like 7 levels, if I remember correctly. Sebastian should have plenty of fun with that!

Well folks, we look forward to seeing you Brits in the near future, and until then, Cheerio~

Ahoy ahoy, and it’s time for another spread of activities on this very blog toast. No better thing to do than to write my blog on my mobile when sitting in the back seat of a car that’s blasting out Bright Eyes, doncha think?
Though my apologies are pretty drawn out by now, I apologise for the lateness of this update. With my parents coming down for spring break, uni work piling up and keeping the house in order, it’s no wonder that I haven’t even touched a computer for over two weeks (apart from when downloading Inuyasha, ahha). I’m thinking of just cutting down my updates to about once a month because I can’t honestly keep up.
Yes, once a month – something to keep Aunt Flow busy with for a few minutes before she flushes the red sea (ergh, how crude). I just don’t want you to think that I’ve abandoned you all (brits). In fact, I’m looking up plane tickets to visit you guys for the summer (late June, early July), with Amy and Sebastian.. so!
Anyway, hope y’all are enjoying the spring time – I’m sure you brits are sick and tired of the snow by now. The sky down here is a cloudless blue, and it’s just warm enough to wear shorts. In fact, it’s such nice weather that I’m typing this outside, missing the rat terrier by my legs (I’ll explain later). Also, the breeze feels nice on my patchy leg hair (yeah, laugh it up). I’d be wearing sunglasses too if it weren’t for these god forsaken goggles that I’ve been wearing since I was 6. But anyway, alas, an update as promised.

Aforementioned in the previous post, me, Amy, and Amy’s friends Mia and Brandon headed to a gay club one night, after eating our ordered in Japanese food (meso beans and snow fish crab sushis ftw). Though at first glance, being one of the few, if not, only straight guy in a gay bar may not seem that appealing, it was actually a lot a fun. And guys, you know me. I’m not homophobic nor do I have any real shame. Since the drinking age down here is 21, we went back to our teenage days by getting older ones to buy us drinks, providing that we buy them a drink too, obviously. But hey, let me tell you – that gay bar was one of the safest places I’ve ever been in. I was certain that I wasn’t going to be mugged, and there was no inclination of hostility or fights ever to arise. It was purely a night of dancing, moderate drinking (even though the bartender went topless, stood up on the counter and poured free shots to those with their mouths open – very much like a bird with her nested chicks), and people calling each other baby, honey, darling, and buu.
As the night went on, closer and closer did the Drag Queen show come – and to those homophobes who most probably don’t read my blog and thinks you can laugh and joke at the drag queens: in this situation, trust me, you wouldn’t want to. These ‘ladies’ were at least 7 feet tall (without the x inched heels, mind you), wide as a door, as muscular as a Belgium cow. These are not people that you’d want to be messing with. The audience would form a semi-circle, with the core being the centre stage. Given the chance, those who had the money slipped the Queens bills in barely concealed areas. The show itself was a lipsync – each Queen had their two show songs, and they’d lipsync to it, dancing around performing. And ladies, you know how hard it is to jump around dancing on heels, so kudos to these guys! At the end of the show, the main Queen, asked all those who were straight to raise their hand. The Queen grabbed one guy with his hand up to participate in the Grande Finale. The Queen (oh, it’s cordial to refer to the Queen as a her rather than a he) asked him , “Honey, how straight are you?”
This guy, with his cap shadowing his eyes, grabbed the microphone from her and said in a gruff voice, “I’m really fucking straight”
Tension ensued. Why be at a gay bar if you’re a homophobic? Nevertheless, the show must go on.
“Well baby, this is a test to see how straight you are. Don’t worry, I’m not going to touch you, I promise ”
And with the guy pushing away, you can hear his voice in the distance, “Hey, get away, don’t fucking touch me!”
Quiet rightly, the audience booed, and shouted obscenities at the zebra among the pride of lions.
So, Amy thought it’d be a good idea if I went on stage, and pushed me on as soon as the guy was chanted out.
“Oh hey baby, where are you from?”
“Err, England”
“England?! Aren’t you supposed be be from Asia or something? Are you a good cook? I’ve never had Chinese before..”
Not so much a racist comment, but a tease in the comedic sense.
Now, back to how the show was supposed to go, she said she wasn’t going to touch me, but at the same time test my sexuality. I agreed.
Her hand was an inch away from my body, and she moved her hand down towards my crotch.
Then, with a flick of her wrist brushed against the zipper of my jeans.
“Oh baby! Are you sure you’re straight? You seem pretty gay to me!”
Everyone laughed, and everyone clapped, and she laid a big red lipstick mark on the side of me cheek.

Fin!

Backstage, we all introduced each other and were shown compare and contrasts of them being male and female. After, we all danced the night away to Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.
One of the guys we met that night, Eddie, had a puppy that he couldn’t keep – his apartment doesn’t allow pets and his parents already have too many dogs. A rat terrier was abandoned in the middle of nowhere, and as Eddie walked by, he found the poor puppy in the ditch whining – bare in mind, this pup is no older than 4 months. So, Eddie had to find a home for in within a week otherwise it would’ve been sent to the pound. So as the week passed, me and Amy decided to be good Samaritans and took it in. Our apartment complex doesn’t allow animals either, but we had to keep it for at least a night ’cause we were to give it to Amy’s Papa, who will in turn give it to a nice home. Apart from it shitting and pissing everywhere, it reminded me of my little chihuahua back home (I know, I’m so manly). I always admit to be more of a cat person but his pup was attached to me: slept with me in the bed (don’t worry, Amy was in the bed also!), followed me everywhere I went, and whined for me when I left the room. I was also the one to hear it’s first bark – it pained for me to give away that puppy.
Sebastian loves dogs from a distances, ’cause you know how dogs are; always jumping up on you wanting some lovin’ and Bub didn’t fancy that too much. However, we got the puppy in the middle of the night when Bub was sleeping so when he woke up, he saw it in the kitchen and said that he was going to name it Buttercup :3
That weekend, I headed to Sugarland/Houston, Texas to meet my sister, my mum and my dad who came down to visit – my uncle and aunt lived there. After an exhausting 5 hour drive, of doing pretty much nothing, a show of hands flew in the air and a reunion was pursued!
Amy’s step dad Charles decided to give me a ride there even though it cost him all those bucks and time, but he felt a little sorry for me since I haven’t seen my family since July so he thought he’d tag along. We didn’t really do much until it was time for dinner. Within that time, I had a plethora of British and Asian ordinary food products that I’ve been without for months. Not surprisingly, the digestive biscuits barely lasted a week (the epitome of a British biscuit, it stopped some people from asking me what the difference was, eugh). After a lot of catching up, my uncle and aunt took us to a sushi and Japanese buffet place that was quite high class. They had half crabs the size of your face, and a flurry Japanese delicacies of which their names I cannot even begin to pronounce.

Note: I haven’t realised this before but Japanese cuisine is either on the rise or has always been very popular over here in the states – at least in Louisiana anyway; I mean, there are literally 10+ places just here in Lafayette, all looking very genuine (this is not your average “China Garden” Buffet), with all the weeaboos working (bahaa).

That evening I took my sister to the Galleria Mall in Houston (being mall rats, the American past time), which had an indoor ice skating rink at the bottom floor. We walked around, catching up, and I took her to Hot Topic for the first time, reliving my long haired, ear bleedin’ years of my life. Embarrassingly enough, I kinda shop there, and my closet still has quiet a lot of black despite the hot weather down here..
The next day before we left, we stopped by a real Chinese restaurant for Dim Sum, something I haven’t had for almost a year. We spent at least 2 and a half hours in there talking and eating. My family complimented Charles on having the guts to try pretty much everything that was placed in front of him (everything but the chicken feet, that always seems to get people).
A few days later, my parents and my sister came down to Lafayette to visit the house and the kids. It was the first time they visited a ‘normal’ American city. Sure, they’ve been to New York and all the main cities in California, but this time it was their turn to experience the ‘normal’, mundane American life. It being so different, what was normal to me now was fascinating to them. Walmart was their fairground, Taco Bell was their misinterpretation of real Mexican food, and our medium is your extra-large. In a way it was good on my part ’cause I didn’t have to do much to amuse them. And besides, the main reason why they came was to see me, Amy and Sebastian anyway, so we spent spending a lot of good collective family time. Amy cooked them a nice homestyle crawfish etouffee for their first night here (if any of you had the money to come down to Louisiana, Amy’s cooking is definately something for you to experience!)
Amy’s parents took them to Baton Rouge (giving me and Amy a night to recover from school and parenting). They treated them to some real southern food and hospitality. They took them to a Cajun restaurant, which had a live band playing zydeco and a dancefloor in the middle (it was a good way to burn the kids’ calories and to get a stitch). Crawfish and alligator – just ask them how much they liked it!
The next day when they were back I Lafayette, I never realised how good of a tour guide I was when I showed them around the university campus – after all, they’re technically paying for it (ouchh). So, I showed them the quad, the swamp, and was driven around everywhere else. Conveniently, there’s a park on campus called Girard Park where Sebastian was able to burn off some energy. A lot of people bought their puppies to the park that day, and another example of Southern hospitality, we sat and talked to the owners for a good few minutes every time. Afterwards, I let Amy take my sister walk around the mall to find all the decent shops, going bargain shopping as one might say. So, me and my parents treated Sebastian to the coin operated rides, and took him to the Bear Factory (yes, we have it here too) and got him and Jasmine each a teddy bear.
The Cajuns have their on particular way of celebrating Easter – the night before we headed to Ville Platte to celebrate with Amy’s parents’ family, we had to dye eggs. Basically, they boil eggs and then dye them very bright, almost neon colours. The tradition is called “poc-poc” – basically, each person has an egg: one holds it upright below, and the other taps it from above; whoever’s egg is still intact is the winner and eats the other person’s egg. Needless to say, most people get sick of hard boiled eggs after Easter here. They had a big family barbeque, of which Amy’s uncle had been cooking since 8:30 in the morning. Lots of meat, lots of jambalaya, lots of conversion. After a while, me and Charles took them to Chico National Park to see the proper swamps (and not the stereotypical ones you see in the movies). Lots of walkways and piers, trying to find an alligator. Nevertheless the view was astonishing, and despite the blistering heat, apparently everywhere we went was a kodak moment.
So, the next two days, before my parents and my sister were to leave, we headed to New Orleans, the Paris of the South – I mean, you can’t come to Louisiana and not visit New Orleans. Whilst driving into the city, you could still see the water mark on the side of the walls from hurricane Katrina, and there are still pieces of debris lying around in abandoned open spaces, still red crosses and red numbers on the doors of the dead.
As ever, the architecture, the culture and the atmosphere is what is famous in the heart of New Orleans. Me and Amy’s family took them around New Orleans the best we could considering the small amount of time we had to spend there. Somehow, Charles was able to book a 4-5 star hotel for a very low rate, with an indoor fountain and a perfect replica of George Rodrigue’s cow with the blue-dog motif.
We found a fancy Cajun restaurant to dine in (of which the name escapes me). With the drinking law being fairly lenient down here, we were all able to order some famous southern alcoholic beverages – Louisiana Lemonade, real daiquaris, and their world famous Bloody Marys. Like the Chinese, them Cajuns are big on their food, and we ate ourselves silly: etouffe, seafood platters, baby-back ribs, roast peppered duck – you name it~
Afterwards, we babysat the kids for a little while whilst Amy’s mum took my parents to see New Orleans by the night life, away from any distractions with the kids; besides, it was getting late and the kids needed. She took them to the Riverwalk, walking by the boat lights and the stars and the night performers. They headed by one of the biggest casinos in New Orleans, just to show them the luxury and the richness. When they were about to leave, Amy’s mum came across a penny machine, as in a slot machine that only took 1¢ each time. Low and behold, all these lights and numbers went ballistic, and won the jackpot which was a over 100000¢, over $1000!
When they got back, me, Amy, Mike and my sister went to visit the ‘young’ nightlife of New Orleans (I put young in quotes because quite a lot of the time, people 50/60+ want to ‘feel alive’ again, heading to all the bars). We took my sister to Bourbon Street, introducing the famous ‘binge drinks’ – the Hurricane, the Grenade, the Chainsaw; and took her down the the street famous for their dance clubs, strip clubs and music bars. Bare in mind, it was a Monday night but things were still pretty alive. We called it a night after the last bar sold big novelty syringes that was filled with a vodka jello shot – after Amy taking a slight taste (and my sister more or less naively downing the whole thing), she noticed that it was laced with straight up codeine, and as soon as we figured that out we threw whatever was left away. As we were walking out, we noticed police beginning the walk inside. After passing by Pirate’s Alley and a nice stroll around Jackson Square in the early hours of the morning, and feeling older than we actually are, we headed back to the hotel to get a very few hours sleep (especially with my dad’s mammoth snoring).
When we awoke, we headed to the renowned French Market, selling all sorts of international goodies –wooden cravings, genuine instruments, metal work and clothes just shipped from Africa sold by Africans, real Asian clothing and household trinkets sold by Asians, et cetera. We hoped to have an expensive lunch at a posh restaurant on the way out of New Orleans, thanks to Amy’s mum’s new winnings, but Charles insisted on us having an ‘authentic Nawlins’ poboy at a common diner. It being way out of the centre of the city, it cost about just as much as a fancy lunch – $7 for hotdogs, seriously!
So just before we got ready to head home, word has it (by the Pilipino who sold us Sebastian’s first Chinese suit!) that there was a Chinese Market on the way out of town. Pulling into the plaza it was located at, stone statues of Chinese lions and cartoony monks gated the entrance. My parents went crazy buying boxes of cup noodles (anyone who has been to my house parties would remember the miscellaneous abalone cup noodles that was as big as your face), some morning bao-baos and various flavourings (pork concentrate anyone?). I’m pretty much set until me, Amy and Sebastian come down to England.
My mum should be arriving home about now, with her flight being delayed by the Icelandic volcano. She stayed an extra week to visit her brothers in California and in Canada, since my dad had work and my sister’s spring break finished. I hope you guys are all doing well, and I will be seeing you Brits in the summer. I will be giving you the actual dates in the next blog post so be sure to get those days off work. Discussing it with my family, we’ve decided that me, Amy and Sebastian will stay for two weeks – half of the week staying in King’s Lynn, rekindling old friendships, with my parents baby sitting for one night so we can take Amy around the town, and the other half of the week I think we’re going to Doncaster for a family reunion. The week after, my mum suggests, wants to book a Derbyshire cottage, for Sebastian to frolic and for us to enjoy the British countryside.
But yes, my next post shall be in may sometime in May after my finals. I shall call an end to my 3000+ word post and spare you the suffering of anymore sentence fragments and grammatical errors – as Amy says:
Let’s eat Grandma
Let’s eat, Grandma
Grammar, it saves lives.

Until then, kids~
Ever since the trip from NOLA, things around here have been getting pretty hectic, and even though that trip was almost a month ago, I’ll still update you guys on it.

Oh yeah, I got a haircut

*Ignore all typos, spelling and grammatical errors*
So basically, the day after we went to New Orleans, Amy was misdiagnosed with bronchitis. After a week of antibiotics, her condition just got worse, and it turned out that Amy had the H1N1 instead: the swine flu. Amy was pretty much being in bedrest and I had to miss a few classes looking after her, and as soon as she got better, Bub had fallen sick too, but this time it was just a chest infection rather than what Amy had.
Oh hey, it turns out that I’m kinda invincible! Everyone Amy came in contact with got sick with all kinds of things, and given my close proximity and how I absent mindedly share drink and food with her:
♪Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did, looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid~♫.
I’m an ox you say? Damn striaght..!
So, in New Orleans, Amy had as much fun as someone with the swine flu could have – she was doing pretty well at the beginning of the day, but as the day streches out, anyone in her position would be totally knackered.
We stopped by the aquarium first to kill some time before Mike got off work. Since he was born and raised in New Orleans, he’s pretty much qualified to be a tour guide. His routes around are crazy, but they sure enough get us where we wanted to be.
We felt like little kids running around the aquarium, looking at all the stingrays and sea turtles – especially the sea turtles (don’t we act just like the <strike>aquariuses</strike> aquarians we are?). They had the dome tunnel you walk through with sharks and fishes swimming over head, and most of the walls being the side of the glass tanks. It’s a small but fun aquarium. Though it doesn’t sound much different to any other, with stingrays, manatines, penguins and seals, it was quite fun walking around and taking in everything. I felt kinda sad for the penguins with the tags clipped onto their feet/wing, and I was totally in-tranced by the hypnotic lights of the jellyfishes. We felt kinda bad when we came across a little play park that was in the aquarium, and all the parents bought their kids, and me and Amy only bought ourselves. Needless to say, me and Amy felt kinda selfish at that moment in time.
Walking by the riverwalk, we headed towards the French Market, not necessarily to do some hardcore shopping, but just to enjoy the people and the atmosphere. Me and Amy were very much entertained by the street performers with their break dancing, singing puppetry and, quite originally, tap dancing. We chilled in a little café with live blues playing in the background – I’m adapting very well to the café cuisine around here: gyro sandwiches (which is basically a very posh and better tasting version of your drunken kebabs) and variously filled po-boys.
New Orleans, or in fact, Lousiana itself, is famously known for their coffee. We didn’t pre-book the hotel in advance so when Mike came down, we stopped by a coffee shop to see what was the best deal for us (the Edgar Degas Hotel sounded prety cool) – stopping at red lights trying to catch wifi from the various shop around us can only work for so long..
We found ourselves an apartment complex than was altered to become a hotel, with a lounge, a kitchen and a swimming pool with a hot tub outside. A hot tub – what me and Amy souled to seek in our hotel, and though it wasn’t in our room, at least they had one outside. However, we didn’t decide to go in it, in fear of Amy becoming more sick; but still, a mere dipping of the feet was still nice. Amy at this point was still coughing up a lung, poor baby
We enjoyed the night life, walking around the streets, walking into various bars and the occasional Irish pub (baha), and coming back to what it feels like to be your own apartment. The negative side of the city that parties until the early ungodly hours of the morning is that they reopen their shops and grocery stores at an ungodly hour in the afternoon. I walked many a blocks to find some milk for coffee, finding out that I had to walk an few more miles just for one blimin’ pint. Needless to say I gave up and got lost on the way back to the hotel.
After thawing out for a few hours, with Amy coughing out her second lung, we passed by the French Market again, this time all the stalls were there and the weather was nicer. So, we browsed and bought a few bits and bobs – a huge oriental fan that I managed to haggle down to $13 – yes, my mother would be proud – which has now replaced a big painting by Monet in our living room. We searched high and low trying to find a place that sold burgers, a craving that all 3 of us had. Turns out that for every decent burger place (especially the one called Yo Mama’s, getting directions to there was pretty hilarious – “Hey, where’s Yo Mama’s?”) you had to be 21 to get into because they have video poker; you have to be 21 to gamble. With our stomaches grumbling, and with our fists raised to THE MAN, THE SYSTEM, we only place we could find was a gothic pub that served some Igor burgers (brutal, right?). We were so hungry, we didn’t even care anymore. It wasn’t even that bad I suppose – as soon as we started eating, a live all female band started playing music similar to a band called Kittie.
It was a nice getaway weekend, but I guess we would have enjoyed it more if Amy was feeling better. The weeks that followed consisted of Amy and Bub recovering, and me studying for my midterms (which are now over, finally).
My parents and my sister are going to be in Texas in two weeks time, and will make their way over to Louisiana a couple of days after, so if you guys want to send me something *COUGH BATTY COUGH*, then just hand it over to my parents or my sister whenever you see ‘em. Amy’s family has planned a barbeque for the Easter weekend so all the families can get together and enjoy themselves over some grilled alligator and squirrell (just <strike>half</strike> kidding).
I apologise to all those who’s birthdays have passed that I haven’t said happy birthday to – it was rude of me since I had so many birthday messages even from people I’ve never really spoken to. I’ve been living without facebook for a while just because I have a lot of housework and homework on my hands.
Hopefully I’ll make a little post within the next week because I spent my Friday with my statistics professor, eating lunch with him, and I went to a gay bar with Amy and her friends last Friday night. Amongst everyone making me get on stage being used as a prime example of a straight guy, and being teased in the bathroom that only had curtains – no doors or locked, it was actually a really fun night. Gay bars make me feel very safe in it’s own way – no one’s out to spike drinks or out to sexually harass like all the other bars, everyone’s out to have a good time, dancing to rap and Britney Spears (lololol). But anyway, more on that next time.
So, until then, you guys have fun, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do~

Amy’s sister Brandy and her boyfriend Nick made a fridge-load of jelloshots, and everyone else came bearing birthday messages and intentions to have a bloody good time. After awaiting Mike’s arrival (he was supposed to be there at 8, but came at 10. It was predicted), we all headed to the hookah café for a little while, listening to a bunch of hippies getting ‘in tune’ with the universe, playing psychedelic notes on their worn out guitar. The hookah was strawberry flavoured, and with my hesitation to try it (given my die-hard anti-smoking morals and my previous experience of bronchitus from second-hand smoke), it was actually pretty cool. At first it felt like you was just breathing in air, but then you could feel the taste of strawberry at the back of your tongue, fusing and sending flavours down to the tip. If you toked too hard and cough, with every cough you could feel small burning sensations of strawberry at the back of your throat – I couldn’t tell if I liked it or not.. Afterwards we went back to me and Amy’s apartment to chill and have a few casual drinks. I spent most of the night on the stairs talking about anime, old cartoons and I distinctly remember talking about Titanic (God knows why), until some ungodly hour in the morning. Spent 3 hours cleaning the kitchen when I woke up; it was as if there hadn’t been a party there the night before!
Me and Amy like to think we’re good hosts.

I'm the one dressed all fancy pantsy. I tend to be mistaken for Tuan a lot (guy on far left)

After a grueling week of exams, it was time for the Mardi Gras weekend. With Louisiana having been through rough times, slavery and hurricane seasons to name a few, these guys know just how to party. The theory behind the Mardi Gras weekend is that it’s the weekend before lent, so everyone eats a bunch of meat and party like animals: a time of year where the transvestites fester and the weird really are the wonderful. The state fair stayed for the weekend and we attended before we headed to Baton Rouge.
If you’ve ever seen State Fairs or carnivals on tv shows, it’s exactly like that. Candy apples, adrenaline pumped rides and carnie games. You know, the floating ducks and spraying water into the clowns head; throwing rings at glass bottles, and the epitome of the fair, the hammer and bell, the high striker. They had ones for kids, and ones for women half the size of the men’s one – obviously, all the games are a gip. For carnies’, they have surprisingly good linguistic skills. Well, if you call being a sneaky bugger ‘good’. There as a game where you had to throw darts at balloons. Easy, right? Pop more, get bigger prizes. Simple. They give you 3 free bonus shots, and then give you bonus shots. You have to pay for the bonus shots (but you don’t know that yet). It sounds stupid falling for that, but seriously, at that moment in time it really is convincing. Life lesson learnt: do not trust carnies, even if they’re missing less teeth than the other suspicious looking ones around.
We took the kids to ride all the kiddie rides; you know, the cars on tracks, bumblebees flying up and down, the kiddie caterpillar rollarcoaster, and of course, the big slides. I’ve kinda grown out of all the carnival rides, and enjoy watching the kids indulge in the rides. Me and Amy did have time to go on some of the extreme rides before we were about to leave, but me and Amy weren’t in the mood to feel sick. Instead, we did the cliché couple thing of going on the ferris wheel. That too was a gip – it only went around twice!
After the fair we headed to Baton Rouge, and picked up a ton face paint from Michael’s before he arrived.
The next day we headed to New Orleans for the kids to see the parade, and for me to make a few bucks. As you guys know, jobs for an international students here are a few and far between thanks to 9/11. So, the plan was for me set up a stall for face painting, for all the drunkards and the little kids (what a brilliant combination). I practiced doing fleurs-de-lis all night, thinking a load of people would want it since the Saints won the Superbowl the weekend before.

I painted Jasmine’s and Sebastian’s faces at the parade, with the floats in the background throwing beads, toys and sweets; and yes, very odd looking people were walking around. Not so much ugly, but more oddly extravagent, and you couldn’t really tell who was female and who was male, but as a very neutral comment, everyone looked beautiful! The transvestites weren’t thrashy with lipstick painted all over their faces, and eyeshadow that extended away from their eyelids, but were actually very feminine looking, and can actually passed as female.
To get to Jackson Square for me to facepaint (it’s a very big attraction for tourists), we had to pass Bourbon street – with people flashing their breasts for beads, and very naked people holding hands and skipping. For lunch Amy’s mum had a Lucky Dog, and as the natives of the N-O say, it’s lucky if you survive it.
We arrived in the French Quarter only to find there are a group of old ladies at the busiest corner facepainting with industrial facepaint, and then some crazy guy with a utility belt of paints, with paint all over his body and a mirror stuck to his head. With all this competition, Amy lowered the price for each facepaint to $2 a piece. I was kinda doing it for fun rather than for the money, but I still count it as a get-rich-quick scheme. With it being so cheap, before we knew it we had our first customer, who hasn’t had her facepainted since she was a little girl. The second person’s boy friend (not boyfriend) was from Derby. I wasn’t sure if I missed the midlands accent, it being so.. penetrating. He did remind me of my rekindled love for apple crumble though, and help me try to explain what yorkshire puddings were to the surrounding yanks.
Profit made? $4! Half way doing my second customer, the cops came passed me claiming that I was in the fire lane (even though he didn’t fuss the guy shoeshining next to me). He also said that I needed to show him a permit, which I hadn’t. I had to leave straight away. I would have carried on and you know, move to a different place or stayed there (I mean, what were the chances of them coming back?), but with my visa being so strict, I didn’t want to risk it.
My scheme to get rich failed, and I have all these posters and facepaints left on my table. A reminder of my failure
Though that’s not to say it wasn’t fun, it was a good experience for my first Mardi Gras.
Well, me and Amy are in New Orleans – count it as belated birthday presents, and a well earned rest. Once again, Amy’s parents are looking after Sebastian for the night, so we’re staying at a hotel, sipping champagne that Amy’s mum had bought us.
Trust me, they’ll be a lengthy post sometime in the next week, I’ll include the New Orleans stuff then. Lots to see and lots to do in the Paris of the South, so until then folks, cheerio, and as ever enjoy the little gallery below~
New jobs, new schedules for the semester, and the old worn out saying said of retailing clothing stores – “A new year, a new you!”, supposedly.

Last weekend, Amy got in contact with two of her old friends (Leigh and Jennifer) from Ville Platte; a sad, forgotten town, ridden with drugs. They somehow managed to survive without to use of such substances and went their seperate ways after middleschool. As a British equivalent, they haven’t seen each other since Year 9, so imagine the reunion! It was nice to see that nothing had change over those years – when they met, there was no awkwardness, no hesitation to speak; they just picked up from where they both left off those many years ago. I only hope to wish that will happen with me when me, Amy and Sebastian come visit in the summer.
As most of you know, I brought my Wii over here to the states, but since it’s PAL, regional, it doesn’t work on American TVs. We’ve tried various TVs, adaptors and cables but nothing worked, so out of sheer impulsiveness, I bought a NTSC Wii over the weekend, along with Mario Kart. I like to think of it as an early birthday present to myself, and my old Wii’s not going to go to waste as I will be giving it to my sister when she comes down in April.
It was hilarious trying to find one to buy, since everywhere was out of stock. After making a few phone calls we found a place called Target had a few – struggling on the over there, we passed a store called Best Buy that could possibly have one, so Amy called them:
“Hey, do you have any Wiis in stock?”
“No ma’am, we’re all out”
“Well you know Target has some”
“Haha! Yeah…”
“In fact, can you tell us how to get to Target?”
And the sales assistant gave us directions, and I could tell that he was gritting his teeth doing so. Shit was so funny.
So after making a few wiimiis and getting used to the wheel again, we spent our Saturday night eating Dominos pizza, playing Mario Kart and chatting it up. Though it may not seem as exciting as some of your Saturday nights, it busy being a parent, and it’s nice to relish in relaxing times like those.
This Tommorow (the 5th) is Amy’s 19th birthday and once again, Amy’s parents’ are nice enough to look after Sebastian for the night. The plan is for me and her to have a romantic meal at a fancy Mexican restaurant (of which the name escapes me), and afterwards meet up with a bunch of friends and go a hookah cafe – What is a hookah? Well, if you remember The Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, it’s the Indian pipe looking thing that it smokes out of. My parents will probably kill me as it sounds like I’m going to be smoking, but think of it as a Indian, Middle Eastern cultural experience! And besides, it’s not all tabacco, they’ve got stuff in there that you inhale that tastes like Sweet Tarts and Coke, and whatever – don’t worry, illegal substances aren’t avaliable

Bookworm.

Afterwards, everyone will probably head back to ours and chill, with a wiimote in one hand, and maybe a glass of wine in the other (oh how sophisticated).
Sunday is the Superbowl, and as most of you Brits have heard what it is, you probably have no idea what’s so great about it. Basically, every state has a football team, and after many games, there are always two teams left standing, much like the Euro/World Cup. The Superbowl is, in effect, the battle of these two teams, and this is the first time that the New Orleans Saints, Louisiana’s football team, has made it to the Superbowl. So everyone’s going nuts for it: wearing the official merchandise, and people shouting “WHO DAT” (yes, it’s actually spelt that way) down the street at passing cars, and groups of people around campus. As with every state football team, there is a slogan that they associate themselves with, and with the illiterate portrayal of Louisiana, it’s fairly humourous to know that their slogan is: “WHO DAT SAY DEY GONA BEAT DEM SAINTS, WHO DAT, WHO DAT” – the spelling being exactly that. It’s on billboards, on fliers, and they’ve even made an official song that comes on the radio frequently. It’s basically those lines being shouted over and over again with distorted guitars and a flurry of drum beats in the background.
Me, Amy and Mike like the make fun of it, and try to decipher it in a grammatically correct manner: “Whom are the ones that has a presumptuous thought that they will possibly beat the Saints at a competitive sport of American Football? Who are they I say!”

Remember, it’s Amy’s birthday tomorrow so be sure to send her birthday messages either on here or via facebook, you know the drill guys.
Mardi Gras is, as ever, closing in, and I’ll be sure to document it.
Until next time guys~

I’m afraid it’s not much of an update this week; ever since the New Year, everything’s been fairly consistant and routine. Cooking, cleaning, sleeping (cough and watching Inuyasha, cough) and looking after Sebastian. Speaking of which, he’s fallen ill. He can barely breathe because his nose and chest is congested and he can barely sleep at night, which goes the same with me and Amy. We took him to paediatrician and they didn’t really diagnose him with a certain illness – either way, he gave us a big list of medication – steroids and antibiotics. They make him very irratible, and make him stay up crazy hours, poor baby.
Uni has started again, and my classes have been harder than ever. You know, when all the 6th form teachers said that there was going to be a lot of reading, well they sure as hell weren’t lying! $600 worth of books and any free time I get I read, and even then there isn’t enough time.
Last weekend we went to Baton Rouge and went to Amy’s old friends’ house, Chloe and Lea. Big and modern, with an open kitchen – something I wish to obtain after my degree! Lea had a pet baby flying squirrel that she saved from her late cat – it’s no bigger than the size of your palm, and it’s very domesticated, very cute!
Whilst we were there, were heard a rumbling in the attack – turns out that there has been possums living in the attic, and their dad just caught one in a cat cage. He didn’t let it free because it would more than likely climb back into the attack from the outside, but instead he kept it inside because it was cold out. Sympathy for these creatures, amirite?
We went to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie and in a way I guess it made me a little bit homesick – the accents, the comedy, the culture. However, aside from that, it was a pretty good movie. Robert Downey Jr played Holmes outstandingly, and he looked exactly like a guy I used to know called Mark Jackson; it’s that trademark smile, I’m sure of it.
This February will be my first year celebrating Mardi Gras, which is on the same day as the Brit’s pancake day. I will be experiencing a flurry of parades and floats, carnival celebrations, and traditional food home to New Orleans. I’ve already had my first King Cake, which is a cinnamon type roll, which can have various flillings, with a layer of icing. The sugar colours purple, gold and green coat the top (the Mardi Gras colours). There’s a small plastic baby inside the cake, and whoever gets the slice with the baby in it has to buy the king cake for next year.
My half-arsed New Years resolution is to get back into my art, as a hobby (and who knows, I might sell something, baha), so if you’re interested, be sure to look out for my deviantart page.
Until next time then, I bid you fair well. Or as Amy says, “Peace out, girl scout” ~
No pictures of me this post. Maybe ’cause you guys keep making fun about my FLIPPIN’ FACIAL HAIR – I’m still not going to shave it. Also, I have skype now, but it lags like nobody’s business on my lappy, I’m gona have to sort that. Either way, the username is benjamin.ng3 – feel free to add.
